M.Tech (Research)

The M.Tech (Research) pathway is intended for students who want early immersion into research while retaining a structured master’s framework. It is suited to those who may eventually wish to pursue a PhD, enter advanced R&D roles, or work on technically challenging open-ended problems that go beyond a conventional taught program.

In ESE, the M.Tech (Research) program is expected to combine coursework and research in a balanced manner. Students are required to build foundational and thematic depth through relevant courses, but the centre of gravity of the degree remains the research problem, the thesis, and the student’s ability to work with increasing independence. The program therefore requires stronger engagement with a faculty group, regular review, clarity of problem definition, and visible research maturity.

The department’s broader effort to strengthen annual review culture, project quality, research communication, and PhD–M.Tech interaction naturally supports the M.Tech (Research) program as well. This makes it a strong training ground for students who want to move from learning a field to contributing to it.
